The UP UP And AWAY Method of Release By Michael J. Lennon Peter came to me again with a problem regarding depression. He had become depressed and did not know why. Everything in his life was changing for the better. His schoolwork had improved, his love life was wonderful, and everything that he could think of was going great. So why was he depressed? He did not know but stated that he would like to know what was making him depressed. I asked him to go inside himself and find that part of him that was depressed and see if he could ask it why it was depressed. (I asked this because he expressed a feeling of wanting to know.) He said he could find it but it would not tell him why (I told him that was ok. We didn't need to know to help him.) I asked him if that part of him would like to go on an incredible adventurous ride. (Knowing that peter loved rides and I always seem to see just how excited he got just mentioning the word.) He said that part of him agreed to go on a ride as long as it was fun. I reassured him that the ride was, fun but incredible, exciting, and adventurous. I had him imagine a big beautiful colored balloon with a door on it. No basket, just a door. But when he opened the door the balloon would not deflate. It would remain inflated. He could imagine this with little effort. I asked him to ask that part of him that was depressed to enter the balloon through the door and take with it all the problems that it was depressed over so it could fully experience the ride. He told me ok, they're all inside. I asked him to close the door behind them and lock it. He did so. Immediately after doing this I noticed a slight shift in Peter. His breathing slowed down and his shoulders slumped as if a weight had been lifted. I asked him to slowly imagine that the balloon was rising into the air and it was taking all those parts of him that were causing him to be depressed up into the air. Now imagine the balloon rising up into the air slowly like a hot air balloon or one filled with helium. The more the balloon rose, the more better he began to feel. The more better he began to feel the more the balloon rose. Drifting higher and higher feeling better and better. Allowing yourself to let go of the string that might be attached to the balloon, which would easily allow you to let go of all those parts that were inside the balloon. Feeling better and better as the balloon rose even higher getting smaller and smaller drifting further and further away from you. Now take a deep breath in and hold it for a moment noticing how truly wonderful YOU FEEL right NOW at this very moment. HAPPY, PEACEFUL, WONDERFUL and as you feel happy, peaceful, and wonderful, I am wondering if you can BEGIN to imagine how wonderful, peaceful and happy YOU will STILL FEEL a week from now, a month from now, a year from now, and 5 years from now. Maybe YOU ARE already IMAGINING just how WONDERFUL, HAPPY and PEACEFUL YOU WILL BE in the FUTURE." "YOU might NOTICE, Peter, HOW GOOD IT FEELS, when YOU, SEE that balloon disappear out of site. YOU can SEE, how EASY it is to allow yourself TO BE HAPPY, PEACEFUL, and WONDERFUL." Then I had Peter open his eyes and come back. I asked him how different he felt specifically from when he came in. He said he felt calm, excited, and happy as if a weight had been lifted. I said, "Great! That's what we were looking for."
