Captain’s Log:

This has been a busy month, it started with a NLP Basic Practitioner Training in Canada where we welcomed several new practitioners, and ended with a NGH Hypnosis Trainers Training where we had 6 great new hypnosis trainers, who are also NLP trainers. Michael Hunt, Lee Peletier, Sharyl Leifeld, James Black, and Julia Allison finished with flying colors. Beryl Comar will finish this month while I am in Singapore. (If you’re interested in private training, special arrangements can be made.) Welcome to the new trainers! We used a new protocol where they were filmed several times teaching to sharpen their skills. It is also something to refer back to. We also used a new feedback protocol. You can hear their comments at the www.nlppodcasting.com. Check Marketing for upcoming Trainers Trainings!

While we were training, I decided to use the Witches Brew exercise to install a behavior that I needed to make a permanent part of my behaviors. For whatever reason, I had gotten out of the habit of ALWAYS buckling my seat belt. I consciously know it is crazy, especially since I drive a Jeep Wrangler, maybe it was a little passive aggressive behavior on my part. Well, I am proud to report it worked! (As I knew it would.) What behaviors have you used hypnosis and NLP to change?

I am also proud to report Christina used some HypnoBirthing skills to help her niece Mallory through the birth of her first baby and Christina was blessed enough to be in the room for the arrival of Kael Joseph Schlosser!

NEW PRODUCTS! Basic Hypnosis and Dynamic Public Speaking!

We recently finished a New Dynamic Public Speaking DVD, it is 1 ½ hours of power-packed info on becoming a great speaker/trainer! Regularly $49, we will offer it this month at an introductory price of $34.99.

We also have a new 2-DVD set on the basics of hypnosis. We have been receiving a lot of requests from people who did not have a hypnosis background but were taking our NLP courses. Since NLP includes a lot of trance-state work, we realized a need for an introductory foundation in hypnosis and decided to design a course for this express purpose. It will be ready this month, and it will sell for $129, but you can pre-order it at $79.99.

I hope to see you on the road to a happy destiny!

William Horton, Psy.D. CAC CMI

Techniques and Tips:

At the “NGH Trainer the Trainer” Training, James Black demonstrated a great induction he called the “Temple’s Thief”. I have adapted it and added a metaphysical slant. I will outline it, but remember to add language patterns and free-flowing Ericksonian patter. This is demonstrated on the new Basic Hypnosis set.

Temple’s Thief
By: James Black

First, get the person to relax and do a quick relaxation, I would use the Dave Elman technique. Then:

As you’re sitting there, you may notice an image of yourself to your left, sitting there relaxing, watching you there relaxing. That you there is the old you, the you that you used to be. That you see’s you there relaxing deeper and becoming who you want to be. That old you(on the left) encourages you to continue the growth and this old you releases any and all beliefs that may be holding you back.

Now, you may notice a you behind you. This is your subconscious you, the you that keeps your heart beating and all the behaviors you have learned. It sees you there relaxing even deeper and the old you going deeper. That subconscious you see’s the old you ready to release anything holding you back. It now does so…

As you continue to go deeper, you may notice your higher self there in front of you, watching you relax even deeper. This higher self will always watch over you and it wants what’s best for you. This higher you, gives you spiritual power and calls upon the universe to help you.

As you feel this power helping you relax and change, you notice a future you off to your right. That you, is the you you want to be and are becoming now. (List the changes the client is making here, i.e. ideal weight, confident, etc.) This future you has all the talents, abilities, and skills that you want. Notice that you (future, on the right) there encouraging you to come to them.

That old you, the subconscious you, the higher self you, and the future you are all encouraging you (the present). These selves move to the North, South, East and West to form a shield from any negativity and limiting beliefs to harm you.

Continue with a technique or patter to help them toward their goal. Try this and let me know what you think. I have used it several times this week to great effect.

Theory into Practice:

Here are a couple of case studies from two of our new NLP Practitioners in Canada. I think you will enjoy these.

Remember to check our web site for additional case studies.

NLP Case Study for Time Management
By: Michelle Higginson

Client: Male
Age: 56
Date: Oct. 17/06
Presenting Problem: Time management
Other factors: Bipolar

Used the Meta Model, information gathering.

Summary of the key questions:

Client wishes to manage his time better in order to complete tasks so he can further his business adventures. Client wants to dedicate time for finishing tasks but has had trouble doing so. After speaking with client for some time, I was beginning to feel he was trying to work towards the big picture instead of breaking it into smaller tasks in order to get to the desired outcome. We discussed this and client agreed to break it down and work with smaller issues at a time. Client feels that if he makes some progress he will feel relieved and there will be a huge pressure gone. Client wants to conquer time management so he can work towards his goals and live the lifestyle he desires.

He will know he has achieved this when he can actually follow a schedule and accomplish things.

He wants to succeed for himself, clients and family. We made a deal that the client would finish some written material for a corporate company by Oct. 20, 2006.

Client states that this accomplishment will allow him to give to others like family and friends; example: gifts and time.

He feels that only himself stops him from using his time wisely.

The resources he already has include; good day planner, education, motivation and that he has made a decision to do it. He will work on only one task at a time so not to overwhelm himself.

Client feels he has all the resources he needs, along with seeing me again.

The way the client feels he will get there includes; setting a deadline to accomplish one goal (which he has done here today) he will block out time in his day timer to get started.

Over all assessment of this client after finishing with the meta model; client tends to overwhelm himself with things to accomplish. He knows what he wants the final outcome to be, but avoids getting started because it’s too overwhelming. We will focus on procrastination and taking baby steps.

Treatment:

Client came out of hypnosis feeling relaxed but motivated to get started. He said the visual of the NLP was great for him.

Client will be back in one week. We will talk about whether he accomplished the few paragraphs he has to write, then work on another baby step he can get started on, such as writing job proposals.

NLP Case Study for Efficiency, Focus, and Balance
By: Sharron Jones

A case study involving the use of hypnotherapy and NLP to improve my client’s:

  1. Organizational abilities and efficiency
  2. Ability to focus and concentrate
  3. Balanced personal life

Introduction

My initial contact with my client was to assist him as a Life Coach. My client felt he needed assistance organizing his existing business and new start up company.

History/Background

My client has been in the financial services sector for over 20 years and business/career is successful. However there is always room for enhancement and my client feels he has more to accomplish. My client recently started a new company however with only two staff members they were beginning to find the daily tasks around the office overwhelming. They urgently need additional staff and a great deal of organization.

While my client has a brilliant business mind, he also developed a very unorthodox method of hiring staff. It was apparent the method or lack there of, needed an overhaul as my client estimated he lost approximately $300,000.00 in wages, training and time within the past two years with staff that were not a good fit for the business.

With new HR policies in place and new hiring practices, my client still seemed overwhelmed with the daily occurrences at the office. My client’s main objective is to manage two offices and to continue with his passion of working one on one with his clients. It appeared my client had a great deal of difficulty delegating duties to his staff and letting go of the more routine duties.

My client would also unsuccessfully juggle the responsibilities of his family, which consisted of his spouse and four children. My client had difficulty relaxing and difficulty separating duties of the business when he arrived home. He estimated getting; at the most 5 hours sleep daily. His ultimate go is to achieve a more balanced lifestyle than his current practice.

Goals of Client:

Using the Meta Model my client expressed the following:

My client stated he would be a much more productive leader and mentor for his staff and clients. The client expressed the need to have a balance between business and family and to know when to turn off the business when he leaves the office and concentrate more on his family when he is with his family.

My client feels he will know he has achieved balance at home when he is able to turn off his cell phone once he parks his car and enters his home. He goes on the state he knows he will achieve balance at work when he is able to have a full hour of lunch 4 plus days per week and not feel rushed.

My client feels these changes will improve both his business and personal relationships considerably. My client expresses the reason he has not achieved any of the above is due to time and not knowing how to implement the administrative functions to his business.

Therapist Goals:

Treatment: Session 1

The induction used was the Progressive Relaxation. Understanding this is my client’s first experience with hypnotherapy, I felt it was important to use this induction to allow him to participate fully in the induction. It was also important to get my client to feel as relaxed as possible as relaxation was something he longed to achieve. Once I was happy that my client achieved hypnotic state, I then proceeded to use the New Behaviour Generator NLP model. Once complete, I used additional suggestions to reinforce the agreements made during our session.

Once complete and client was present in the room and out of hypnosis, I completed the session with client feedback. My client disclosed the individual he wanted to model, the nuances he noticed and colours, vibrations, etc. My intention was to use the information given in subsequent sessions.

Treatment: Session 2

In our second session, I used progressive relaxation induction once again as the client stated it really helped him to relax easily. I repeated New Behaviour Generator as in our previous session; and strengthened the suggestion using the cues and the nuances my client described in our feedback session of session one. Self hypnosis techniques were also a part of session 2.

Post Treatment

My client is happy with his progress since our first two sessions. My client is satisfied that his work thus far has helped him to rid most of the anxiety he felt with both his personal and business life. My client states he is able to sleep a lot better and longer during the nights. He is able to unwind with his family for a substantial amount of hours prior to going to bed and he has turned his cell phone off once he enters the door without feeling he needs to have it beside him even after business hours. My client expresses further happiness to be able to take lunch, schedule weekly meetings with his staff. My client still struggles with letting go of some of the more routine tasks that can be and should be handled by his administrators. With future sessions, my client will be well on his way to living a balance lifestyle.
