Captains Chair:
I am coming back from a very busy few weeks. Seminars, stage shows, a class and a conference. One must test yourself on occasion, and find out your limits. When one does this, one must maintain a balance, and that is the tough part.
After a two week span of stage shows and seminars, I had the chance to lead a seminar on Group Dynamics using hypnosis and NLP. I did this for an NGH chapter in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. The group came and sat through one of my Stop Smoking/Weight Loss seminars. They saw it from set-up to completion, including the “tear-down.” We then spent two hours talking over all the things related to the seminar and how to do them, with a focus on the dynamics involved. It was well received and I may do more of these in the future. Several people have asked me to do a class on the weight loss & stop smoking seminar business, since I have been doing them successfully on a day-to-day business for several years now. If there is a continued interest, I am considering putting this class on the fall calendar. The past two months have been a stressful time, due to my over-committing myself, spreading myself thin, as my wife describes it, literally doing the work of three people. (See Theory into Practice.)
On a personal note I will be going to Norfolk to see my daughter return from her tour in the Gulf. Her ship set several records, longest deployment, most putting ashore of the Marines, and the most important no causalities.
From The Road:
As you know, in this section I try to share with you my current experiences from the road, in training, seminars, and therapy, hoping you can save some time and money by my experience, both good and bad. No matter how much you prepare, sometimes your plans do not always work out the way you thought they would. Recently I added some information to my seminar, and then before I tested it, I decided to make more changes while deleting some old material. Well, the results were not good. I had some unhappy campers on my hands, and after two such incidents, I knew I needed to pinpoint the problem. The difficulty was I had altered too much to see what the “problem, or problems” were, so I followed the advise of Scott Mcfall and Elsom Eldridge and added one thing at a time. It took only a few days but I found the things that were causing the problems. It had to do with language, and how I was expressing an idea to the crowd. I thought it was brilliant; they did not interpret it the same way. Naturally the final result is proof that the communication was successful, so as the communicator I altered it and now it works fine.
So my message here is to stick to what works and make changes slowly. Test them over time and with multiple people. I found after discussing this situation with various people, that this can happen as we become full of ourselves, and then we blame the clients for their refusal to “see the light.” This also lead me to go back to some basics, as you will see in techniques section.
Theory into practice:
Balance is the Key. Recently I have been made painfully aware of the need to keep the balance of mind, body, and spirit. If you let them get out of balance it will have ripple effects throughout the rest of your life. We are beings that have a unique trinity, and when all are in balance we feel at peace with the world and “in tune” with our surroundings.
Recently I let my spiritual life slide into the background. The result, I felt out of touch, physically ill, and emotionally drained. I, much as the story above, was talking a good game but not living it. When I am in balance, I have deep energy levels, and a zest for life. Setbacks become challenges that can be fun to overcome. My unique sense of humor keeps my perspective fresh. But suddenly everything seemed to go internally haywire. I had to pull back and take an inventory of myself. I had to look at myself and be fearless in doing a true soul searching. I saw where I let myself slide, a little at a time, and was becoming a person I did not like very much. I felt like I lost my soul. When it is all over, how you feel about yourself is what matters. One loses one’s self in small increments. It is the little selling of your self that lowers your soul.
Personal integrity is being true to yourself, when it costs you something. Following the path less traveled is hard when you go it alone. Telling the truth can cost you associates, but lying to yourself costs you your soul.
I did some self-hypnosis and meditation and focused on bringing back my spirit. I worked on reconnecting with my higher self. (See techniques.)
Technique and Tips:
“This above all else, to thine own self be true, then it must follow, as night the day, thou canst be dishonest with any man.”
Self-Hypnosis for Soul Connection:
Start with some basic self-relaxation. Several deep breaths or whichever method you prefer.
Breathe in deeply. Focus on the color red. Imagine red coming up through the base of your spine and going out through your body.
Now breathe in focusing on the color orange, coming in through your navel area.
The next breath is the color yellow around the solar plexus and speading out.
The next breath is with the green color coming into the heart area and spreading out.
The next breath is the color blue coming in through the throat.
The next is purple coming in through the head.
The next is violet coming in through the forehead.
Now imagine a white light coming in from the top of your head, and surrounding you. Then notice the color red at the base of your spine, the orange at the navel, the yellow at the solar plexus, the green in the heart, the blue at the throat, and violet at the forehead. Think of them in pure gem-like tones, giving off energy.
Now imagine your higher self, your guardian angel, or whatever your belief system uses signifying a pure, all-knowing guiding force, and connect yourself to this force with a cord of pure white light. Open a channel with your higher self. Ask for help in whatever area you are working on.

NLP & Hypnotic Group Dynamics
Congratulations to those of the Minneapolis/St. Paul NGH chapter that attended our first NLP & Hypnotic Group Dynamics workshop. In the past we have offered Stage Hypnosis courses and Dynamic Speaking Seminars. Neither of these focused on the growing opportunities for group hypnosis seminars such as weight loss or smoking cessation. Dr. Wil Horton has literally hypnotized thousands of people in just this setting and is willing to share his knowledge and vast experience.
NLP for the Mind, Body, and Spirit, the Pyramid of Integration
The number three, the pyramid/triangle has always held a mystical value...a symbol of balance, of completion. This is proven in the importance of Mind, Body, and Spirit balance. You cannot just work on development of your mind, reading and studying to the exclusion of all else. Nor can you only focus on the physical body, striving for the perfect body form, the search for the elusive fountain of youth. And most of all, you cannot forget the importance of Spirit in this all important equation. Look around you. Observe the so-called "successful" people.
How truly "balanced" are their lives? What have they sacrificed to achieve their goals? Have they somehow lost touch with their soul, their spirit? Look to yourselves.
