Wil’s Log:

February was a super busy month with finalizing the moves into the new offices, hence the absence of a February e-zine. Please accept our apologies.

We have been working on getting ready the Learning Center in Ft. Myers and its ready. I would like to invite you to come to one of our upcoming trainings. The first is a NLP Basic Practitioner course April 1- 4, 2005. You will be able to learn the basic skills or review your basic NLP skills. We have a new manual and have revamped the course. You also will be able to see the new clinic that is seeing about 60 clients a week For those that are interested, I will include some practice building skills. Class size is limited to 10 students so that each student will be able to receive individual attention. This has been a dream of mine for some time as I have long wanted to have a center where you can learn the skills in an environment that uses them daily. I also want to share with you how to successfully run a hypnosis clinic, and the secrets to how to build one. As you all know, I do this daily. It is hypnosis in a practical environment, not just theory. I know that you will want to come down and see the new center.

We also invited Jillian LaVelle to teach her Certified Stress Management Consultant Course at the NLP Learning Center in Ft. Myers, FL June 24-26, 2005. Jillian is one of the few trainers who not only knows how to present information, but teaches in such a way that you’re sure to learn it and incorporate it into your life. She also makes learning fun and easy. Jillian LaVelle is President of the International Association of Counselors and Therapists (IACT). She has a private practice in Bonita Springs, FL. She is an author of the Empowered Therapist: Practice Building Techniques and 101 Hypnosis Suggestions. This course is a MUST. Theory into Practice:

I took the oral exam for my Certified Reciprocal Alcohol and Drug Abuse Professional January 22, 2005 and just got the results, I passed. As I told you last month, I would share the techniques I used to prep for this test.

First the test: It is set for 45 minutes, with 3 examiners who each ask a few questions in the areas of screening, intake, assessment, orientation, treatment planning, counseling, case management, crisis management, consultation, referral, and client education. You are scored in each area and then they are weighed in each area and you must get a score of 76 or more to pass. You present a case and are asked questions about that case or other cases that apply.

It is a tough exam; not as bad as the California Psychologist exam, but tough. To get ready for the exam I had to HONESTLY look at my strengths and weakness. Sounds easy, but it’s tough, self-honesty.

I feel I am well versed in AODA, and a good presenter, so my strengths are also my weakness as they make it hard for me to study, and be open to new ideas. Finding the time to study was also a challenge due to opening the two hypnosis clinics. Since I believe in NLP and hypnosis I decided to make a tape for myself, and this is what I did:

First a Dave Elman induction followed by a Blackboard Relaxation technique.

Next I did a New Behavior Generator.

1. Watch a movie of myself taking the exam, seeing myself as confident and secure.

2. Watch the movie again, and this time see behind the movie to the homework, study, reading, being open to new ideas, running in the background of the movie.

3. See the study and home work as fun and exciting, learning new ideas, or reviewing old ones.

4. Step into the movie, See, Hear and Feel the experience.

5. Direct suggestions to study and practice.

I then used a Computer Swish Pattern using a computer as the background:

1. Visualize myself on a computer screen. As I notice myself starting to procrastinate about the exam, I move the mouse to click on an icon symbolizing the “best me” on the screen.

2. Double click on the icon.

3. See a picture of myself taking the exam, confident, relaxed and assured. There is a sense of contentment that I had prepped for the exam, drawing on the material studied.

I ended it with the Zone exercise. This worked for me. I also did it for a client who was about to take her reality exam for the 3rd time. She passed!

From the Road:

I also want to share an email from a student and how she customized and NLP technique!

Good Morning, Wil,

I have a question for you -- I was working with a musician who had some performance issues. In an attempt to do the “Swoosh” technique (Swish technique with sound), he could not do it visually. In the session I was stumped, that never happened to me before. Later on I realized how aural and kinesthetic he is. We created musical notes that "swooshed" a flat sound to a vibrating one he liked. My question is -- How else can the "swoosh" be adapted if someone is not visual?

Techniques and Tips:

The Alien’s Time Tunnel

By Harold Cohen

This technique would work well with both adults and children that are science fiction movie fans or have interests in UFOs. It should work equally well for increased self confidence or removing phobias.

Ask your client to close their eyes and to relax.

Next, have them imagine that they are suddenly seeing an alien spacecraft land before them. It slowly comes down and lands. (Note, not much detail is needed here since you do not want the client to focus on the details.)

After the spacecraft lands, a long tunnel starts moving out of it on a conveyor-like light beam. The tunnel is about 10 feet in diameter and about 25 feet long. As it fully emerges, it slowly sets itself on the ground. Then looking into this tunnel you start seeing very beautiful colorful light patterns on all of its entire inner walls. You can go through this tunnel to the other side. As you are looking through it, you hear a friendly voice coming from within the spacecraft, but it is going through the tunnel when you hear the voice say, “This is our gift to your world and all the people in it. Use our time tunnel to allow you to go back into time, re-live events, return to the present time, but all prior events that have changed you in a non-preferred way will be reversed. Your memory of any traumatic or life changing events will be greatly reduced and/or made to completely disappear. Upon leaving the tunnel you will feel refreshed, alive, and ready to enjoy life to the fullest. You will no longer be troubled by the past and will always have confidence in everything that you do. You will feel great about yourself, feel excited about what you can now do with your life to enrich it and those of others.”

After hearing these words the spacecraft closes its light beam and quickly flies away.

Curiously as you approach the tunnel, you think about your lack of confidence (can also be a phobia). You enter the tunnel and the lights blink calmingly, invitingly. Gradually you mind is gently moved to think through the entire episode of what happened when you were younger that bother you now and causes your lack of self-confidence (or present phobia) after going through the events like a movie in your mind, you suddenly feel it run the movie backwards. As you are walking more towards the end of this tunnel the movie is playing alternately forwards and then backwards in you mind.

(Pause)

You feel as if each time that the movie is played forward and backward it leaves you with a feeling of expanded calmness, less fear and more self-confidence. As you walk further through this tunnel, your internal thoughts continue to amplify this feeling of being comfortable with yourself and with your surroundings. You feel an expanded sense of well-being, more confidence in everything that you say and do.

(Pause)

You look around as you movie through the tunnel and behind you, you see those life-changing events shown on little picture screen-like balls floating in the air. As you walk beyond , closer to the other side of the tunnel you again look back and see each ball “pop” and completely disappear. As each ball “pops” you feel that a load has left you that had been prohibiting you from living your life in a way that you would like. Eventually all balls have “popped” and you now feel as if all of these weights no longer are holding you back from achieving your life’s ambitions.

As you walk out of the end of the tunnel all of your past thoughts are replaced with calming self-confidence, no fears of any kind, and a feeling of being refreshed and completely alive and awake to your needs, and those of others, to live a life that is gentle to yourself and to those around you.

You now self-reflect on your past problems (quickly) and now see them as separate from your new future which now leads you directionally to your “new you.”
