Intro to NLP Today E-Zine
NLP Today E-Zine is a monthly series of articles that will bring you the best information in the world of NLP and Hypnosis. We will bring you articles that have been proven in the real world. Heavy with techniques and information you can use in your daily life, whether it's as a therapist with clients, business or sales, or just for self-development. We will get you the information you want and can't get. We focus on proven applications, not theory. Our trainers all "do the work." This is the difference that makes the difference. We cut the fluff and bring the main course. Mental Food you can use. NFNLP is the leader in this type of technology.
This is a service of the National Federation of NeuroLinguistic Psychology and Dr. Wil Horton. We want people to achieve their highest potential, and NLP is the #1 tool for this. If you feel you have been added to this list in error, check out an issue, and then let us know if you would like to be removed.
You can achieve your dreams.
Captains Chair:
This month I had the pleasure of doing a Masters NLP class and while doing it I became of aware of several things. The first of which is that a lot of us come into this field somewhat wounded, and we become wounded healers. One of the great truths is that by helping others we help ourselves. I think being a wounded healer, is an honor, and if you continue to work through your personal wounds you grow not only a NLPer and hypnotist, but as a person.
25 years ago this month I was blessed to be given the tools to change my life. It took a few years, but 20 years ago ST. Pats day, I "GOT IT", and my life has never been the same. A blind man can see my blessings, and part of my personal mission is to share some of the tools that have given me this new mind set. NLP and Hypnosis were key tools in my personal transformation. I have met many on this road to happy destiny, and I know the best is yet to come.
As life goes on, we, as humans, will naturally develop new problems, or wounds, that need to be healed, where do we go for help?
One of the problems of being a "wounded healer" is it is easy to get lost in helping others and begin to lose yourself. It is temping to escape your wounds by getting overly committed in your clients problems. The flip side of this is beginning to believe you are above all this and have no problems. (Sort of the Emperor's new clothes) If you only surround yourself with clients and students, you may actually start to believe your own press. (This is the arrogant healer, the type that blames clients/students for not changing, because you are the great xxx).
When I teach, I always stress I am a work in progress, and have plenty of things to work on. Some of my character defects will die 20 minutes after I am buried. This keeps me humble and open to new ideas.
With this in mind, we have developed a "WOUNDED HEALER WEEKEND", a place where you can come to learn new techniques, and work on the most important thing in your life, you. It will be a personal development weekend, a place to bring your problems and wounds, leave them behind as you soar to new heights, and break free of the things holding you back! As part of this will be the Trapeze Experience. I have to stress, this is not some NLP/ Hypnosis technique, you will (if physically able and most are) REALLY FLY ON THE TRAPEZE. Read at the end what students have said, most rate it as one of the most impact full events ever, and when placed with this type of NLP training, you will be forever changed! Join us for this unique experience, space is limited!
Theory into Practice: The Power of Letting Go!
During this same weekend I noticed a few curious things:
One, when Tito Gaona, a world class flyer, and in the Ringling Circus Ring of Fame, teaches the flying trapeze, he breaks each part into small increments. When you first show up and see the trapeze rigging, you think "no way," but he starts slow and has you jump on a trampoline, and do some stuff there, then off to the "low bar" to practice hanging and swinging. When you finally start up the ladder, you're ready! (Does this sound like chunking experiences for us?) It truly gets one ready to something that you once thought impossible. (One student, Scarlet, from Vermont, had a fear of heights and the first day she was doing a knee hang!) See our web site for personal testimonials regarding this amazing experience!
Secondly, another student was on the trapeze bar, and when she was told to "let go", she could not. The teacher repeated it to no avail. Yet when he told her to "open her hands" and drop, she did so with no problem! An instant reframe. Many times we are to "let go" and possibly it is against our nature and are not able to, but maybe, we can "open our hands and release something."
Are you have trouble letting go of something? Maybe you could just open your hands and release it; let it drop to the ground!
When you're out in the world, and see anyone who is good at something... what do they see? What can you can take from it? What messages can you gleam from them?
From the road:
This month I also had the opportunity to test myself by entering a karate tournament. I signed up for 2 events, Kata (forms) and weapons. When I arrived, I found I was registered, but for Kata and Kumite (fighting). Well, I was somewhat at a loss, but since I always say be prepared and you can learn from any experience, I went ahead. I was very nervous as I have not fought in competition for over a year, but one can only test one's skills in the real world, so I went ahead. The school I attend was there, and since I am a senior Black belt, they got to see me compete. The funny thing was several of the adults all noticed a "change" as one said, "Sensi, you are always so laid back, nothing bothers you, and you take it easy, but man, when you started competing your eyes changed. It was wild!" I used the Circle of Excellence and focusing techniques. (Plus I hate to lose.) In my last fight I jammed (broke) a finger, but shook it off to finish. I finished with two Silver medals. I thank NLP and Hypnosis for helping me stay sharp during my road trips.
Try working on your wording to stress how your client feels about "letting go" or "dropping" a problem, possibly release will work better. Try various ways to say the same thing and see (hear, feel) which work the best!
Technique and Tips:
Here is a new technique form Michelle Mynatt of the Hypnotic Centers of New England.
"Foundation Building Technique"
* Assessment.
*Define the goal with the client.
* Have the client define and label the challenges and obstacles they will face when attempting to reach their goal.
* Have the client label each challenge or obstacle in order of difficulty.
* Have the client define and label the positive out comes and results of this goal being achieved.
* Again have the client number them in order of personal importance.
* Ask the client to then focus on the image of a brick wall.
* When the image is clear, solid and concise in their minds eye, ask them to begin with the labels they chose for the obstacles they face. Have them begin at the bottom of the wall and label up, with the largest and most difficult challenges at the bottom of the wall.
* Tell the client that it is time for a new foundation and ask their subconscious mind directly, if they are ready and willing to proceed along with the positive changes they have decided to make today?
* If no, stop and review with your client when they may be ready and what it would take to get them there.
* If yes, proceed by asking them to look at the highest easiest brick and label on their wall. Have them focus in and discern what it is that they will do to alleviate this challenge in their lives. Continue down their bricks and wall with the client until you've reached the bottom and alleviated the challenges of the last brick.
* Some clients may not proceed through the bricks in one session, some may. If a client is not ready to make the necessary changes yet, stop and review with your client until you have found out what is necessary for them to make the changes or face the challenge.
* When your client has alleviated the challenges of the last brick, tell them it's important to have positive boundaries and to face challenges and issues, and that they will now allow themselves to update their minds information/data banks, and allow for the old boundaries to shift and these new boundaries to be set in place.
* Then ask your client to retrieve their labels and positive outcomes they had established. Once they have these ask them to go and begin to build new boundaries with a new positive foundation. Have them place each label on a new brick, the strongest best outcomes being placed on the bottom for the strongest foundation possible.
