Something to think about from Dr. Wil Horton
Recently when we were doing a NLP Master and Trainers Training course, as a confidence builder we did a different type of exercise. This was a fun exercise that caused some of us to overcome states of fear, specifically, a fear of heights. Rather than a fire walk, we did a flying trapeze course. We did this under the direction of the world's foremost trapeze flyer, Tito Gaona, in Venice, Florida.
You may remember the flying trapeze from visiting the circus. The platform is about 20 feet in the air, and you have to climb a wire ladder to get to it. Then you swing, and finally drop to the net. There are safety lines, and it is a lot more difficult than it looks. Everything from climbing the ladder, standing on the platform, swinging, and finally letting go to fall to the net was a challenging exercise. It sounds easy, but it can be a very frightening experience to someone who has never done it. I have jumped from planes, fire-walked, repelled down a cliff, scuba dove in the dark, and competed in contact karate, and this was as thrilling.
Several of the students experienced some fear about the height, and the falling to the net. So I thought about an exercise I did with Martial artists to help them turn fear into power. I wrote an article that appeared in Martial Arts and combat sports. (It can viewed in full at our web site: http://www.nfnlp.com) The exercise releases a deep inner power.
What are your fears? Public speaking? Opening a new office? Starting a new relationship?
This exercise will give you the tools to overcome it. We at NLP TODAY and NFNLP want this E-Zine to be the best most informative out there for both personal development and therapists. If you want to be removed from this FREE service, hit reply and let us know.
