Wil’s Log:

I will keep this e-zine brief since we are moving into the summer months and everyone’s schedules seem to get very hectic. This month has been extremely busy for us here. My first stop was up to New Jersey for the International Association of Counselors and Therapists conference where I did a Sports Performance course, and a talk on Critical Incident Stress Resolution. It was a great conference! One of the seminars I really enjoyed was a great talk on the use of MRI’s in tracking the effectiveness of Hypnosis and NLP (More on that next month.)

Then it was back to our NLP Learning Center to complete a Master Practitioner course and a Trainers Training. The classes went well, and we hope to see you at an upcoming training soon. Come and train in a fully functioning hypnosis clinic that sees 40 to 60 clients a week!

The day between the Master and Trainers course was the opening of the new Star Wars movie and of course I was there for the midnight show. (If I can’t control my internal state and keep my energy up for the one day’s lost sleep, I should not be doing Master NLP trainings!) Most of you know I am a Star Wars freak, and this was the best since The “Empire Strikes Back” It closed all the loops as we would say in the NLP world. I saw it again over the weekend, then went home and watched the “first three” that we had seen in the seventies. If you like metaphors, the ideal of hope, friendship, and good over evil (or the ideal of it), see the new one. It also shows you nothing it what it seems on the surface.

Coming up is a Basic Hypnosis class in June; then in August, the must attend event of the year, the NGH conference in Marlboro, Mass, where I will be doing a Basic Practitioner Course (Pre and Post Conference) and Master Practitioner Course (Post Conference). In addition to the NLP Certification trainings, I will be doing a talk on Phobias and a workshop on Addictions.

Then at the end of August, I will be teaching a Basic Practitioner class at the NATH Conference in Virginia Beach (where I hope to spend some time with my daughter before she deploys again out to the Mid-east).

For our friends in Canada we have a Basic and Masters Practitioner trainings in October, and lastly for our clients in Europe we have a Basic and a Master Practitioner training in Holland in November. For details check the marketing section.

Theory into Practice:

Integrity, Does Matter... !!!

What is integrity? Some like to say it is what you say and do when no one is looking. I also like to think true integrity only shows when it costs you something.

Do you stick to your principles when it may cost you money, a job, a relationship? That’s the tough part, staying true to those ideals even in the face of loss. We respect those whop show this or do we?

Do you ever think it is OK to sell out an ideal for the possible payback, or to say it another way, does the ends justify the means?

Integrity is difficult to define. Eleven dictionaries carry eleven different definitions. We know integrity when we see it but have trouble explaining it. There is an illusive nature to integrity. It cannot be self-proclaimed, only observed in others. Yet most acts of integrity are performed in private and not subject to public review. Those who have integrity in large measure have discovered something that the rest of the world must know; that integrity, which many look upon as being comprised of sacrifice, struggle and non advantageous decision-making, actually makes life easier, joyful and powerful.

Just an Attempt to Define Integrity: Perhaps it is the pivotal concept of what it means to be human and involves fully accepting one's humanity.

Integrity has many synonyms however no single synonym is sufficient; trustworthiness, loyalty, virtue, sincerity, candor, uprightness, honesty.

Integrity is also the avoidance of deception and the avoidance of expediency. It is being complete and undivided.

Integrity communicates to others immediately. It is being the same person to everyone. It's not noble; it's not altruistic; but a practical vehicle for living effectively, for having life work.

It is maintaining values steadfastly and focusing on what you believe is right.

Integrity is an achievement, not a gift. It is not the characteristic that determines decisions. It is the summation of the decisions we made.

Author Ayn Rand put it simply as "adherence to one's convictions."

Last year in my area a great deal was made about how the local Salvation Army handled an ethical dilemma, (well, to some it was a problem that they stuck to their ideal and to me showed integrity), here is what happened.

The local head of the Salvation Army was called in to receive a $100,000 donation to their shelter. The local TV and newspaper was on hand, the check was given. GREAT!

In the conversation, the personal donating the money said he was glad to give them the money as they had helped him and his family in the past. He then stated that it was the least he could since he won the lottery.

Without hesitation, the Commander handed the check back, stating the Salvation Army does not take money from gambling proceeds.

Yes, they could do a lot with the money, but an ideal is an ideal. What do you think?

As a bit of back story, the officer for the Salvation Army stated that he had several families in the shelter right now because one of the parents had gambled away everything they owned (one only played the lottery) and if he accepted the money, he would be saying it was OK to gamble, which they hold is wrong.

Looking forward to your comments and Feedback.

Techniques and Tips:

Moving On

By: Lucy Adams

I like to use this technique when someone needs to move on after a breakup but works very well with weight, smoking and various other issues as well.

First I gain rapport with the client and have them give me a brief history of the relationship they want to change. Through their wording, I find out if they are Visual, Kinesthetic or Auditory. I us a progressive relaxation or other induction and then ask them to visualize the other person as being there. I ask them to describe the connection to the other person as a cord and ask them to notice where they are connected to the other person by this cord. I ask them what color the cord is, what shape is it? What size is it?, What is the texture, What’s the energy running through the cord, is there any message, are there any blockages? Then I have the client change any part of the relationship that needs changing and have them rebuild the cord by identifying the issues that need to be changed, visualizing changing the cords, running healthy energy through the cords, going through the forgiveness process and the acceptance process. After I emerge them, I have them do another visualization imagining themselves 5, 10, 15, 20 years down the road if they had stayed in the bad relationship and how their life would be if they stayed with the person (or the habit) and then have them visualize themselves 5, 10, 15, 20 years down the road letting go of the person (or habit) and how their life has changed (for the positive).

For those of you that remember the Mending a Broken Heart Technique (check the web site) this would be a great way to end it!
