Something to think about from Dr. Wil Horton
Intro to NLP Today E-Zine
NLP Today E-Zine is a monthly series of articles that will bring you the best information in the world of NLP and Hypnosis. We will bring you articles that have been proven in the real world. Heavy with techniques and information you can use in your daily life, whether it's as a therapist with clients, business or sales, or just for self-development. We will get you the information you want and can't get. We focus on proven applications, not theory. Our trainers all "do the work." This is the difference that makes the difference. We cut the fluff and bring the main course. Mental Food you can use. NFNLP is the leader in this type of technology.
This is a service of the National Federation of NeuroLinguistic Psychology and Dr. Wil Horton. We want people to achieve their highest potential, and NLP is the #1 tool for this. You can achieve your dreams.
Captain’s Log:
I recently read an article sent to me by Beryl Comar, it is “How to Bring Our Schools Out of the 20th Century”, Beryl has a Masters degree in education (and she is our top international trainer) and we have talked in the past about the need to constantly update our training and our own education. To read the article go to:http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1568480-1,00.html
To put it briefly: Imagine Rip Van Winkle wakes up after a 100 year sleep, every thing would be new and strange, cell phones, computers, air travel, TV, the list goes on, nothing is familiar until he walks into a classroom, only the black board is green, and there may be a projector.
Think about it, kids today spend a lot of their day as their parents did, and reading books that are out of date as they are printed, (remember the Soviet Union), but look at the way life has changed since a typical 50 year old was in grade school! Instead of changing how we teach, we are focusing on standardized tests.
I bring this up as I wonder if many in the NLP and Hypnosis community have become stuck in their own time warp? Even though NLP is relatively new, we have our own Traditionalists, those who think it should be now as it was in the beginning. I admit this can be appealing. I can find the “old school” methods a good start. However I relate it to my martial arts training: Traditional is good to build base skills, then one must “break free” and challenge the old to start new and exciting growth. Art can never be standardized.
When we first started offering a Certified Home Study NLP course we (I) was ridiculed and slammed as not teaching true NLP (or Hypnosis) now several of the big names that ridiculed me now have their own home study courses. We are currently working on new courses, last month we had Processing Disorders- Auditory, and a new Timeline, the next Processing Disorder will be filmed soon, it is Visual Processing and Developmental Learning Problems. We are also working on a new way to offer classes that will be announced soon.
Upcoming Trainings
We still have opening in the New Rochelle training March 9 to 12 in a beautiful setting, also the training in Canada April 20 to 23 looks to be another great course sponsored by the Ontario Hypnosis Center. We have also added the new shorter NGH Trainers Training course for late May 30- June 3, call for details, and a new Masters Course to be held on Long Island in New York 22-24. It also is exciting that I will be in Kula Lumpur in April, and India in June. Check marketing for details.
I hope to see you on the road to a happy destiny!

Techniques and Tips:
“Influenced State”
by Shiddarta (Jakarta, Indonesia)
I already used this technique before knowing NLP, but with NLP, I modify it to become more powerful (with magic words, language patterns, etc.). I use this technique whenever I want to ask/command my friends/pals to do a quite big favor (i.e. lending me some money, assist in a project they are not involved in). Of course, I should already know at least one of their experience(s) which make them feel intense joy. What I do is like waking hypnosis.
First, I go into rapport with the person using some "magic words". Then, I continue this conversation by talking about their ‘joy’ experience. (It’s like inducing a state in hypnosis.) I do that for 3-5 minutes, making them laugh...feel cheerful, etc. After I’m pretty sure that we have achieved a ‘deep’ connection, I ask them my favor/request with a softening phrase, such as “I wonder if you could help me do this”. By combining this with their meta program (toward/move away, general/specific, internal/external)... I usually get their approval/support by a rate of more than 60%.

Persuasion: The Incredible Modifying Force of Becoming
By Vincenzo Fanelli
Man has always been looking for the secret to self-realization, to happiness and to the materialization of his desires. (...)
(...) The obstacles he meets are many and of various nature: his environment, his fellow human beings and his self-imposed limits. This last point is fundamental, since our deepest convinctions represent both a strength and a weakness.
In the past, psychologists were convinced it was impossible to change one’s mind: if our character is established in a certain way, we shall die with that type of mind. But, as we are going to see, research has shown the contrary to be true: it is possible to change and to push beyond one’s limits. Let’s try and understand our mind’s functioning in the light of the latest discoveries.
For instance, when we grab a pen from our desk we set in motion a series of movements, contracting our muscles without a precise will. In other words: we choose an objective (getting the pen) and our brain transforms into action what we have desired.
When a child learns how to grab an object for the first time his/her hand is uncertain and forced to make a series of corrections. Later on, through experience, that uncertainty disappears, also thanks to the corrections which have been learnt on the way.
To build a mechanism similar to the human mind, English neurophysicist W. Grey Walter maintains that ten billion electronic cells occupying one million and a half cubic feet of space would be necessary, and that their functioning would require an energy equal to one billion watts.
This wonderful mechanism levers also on the deep convictions to be found within every individual. These are real pillars on which he/she bases his/her existence: they are the ones “telling” us what we can do and what lies outside our potential. What we believe in the mental films we create for ourselves have a fundamental importance in our existence since they influence our behaviour and our perception of the reality surrounding us.
The expectations which every day we create in our minds “program” our encounters, our arguments, our discussions with certain persons and even the outcome of certain events. Psychologist William Multon Masterson advised his patients “to simulate” mentally work meetings or important situations they were supposed to face seeing themselves as successful persons. In other words, he suggested to create mentally a film incident to specific events in which we are both directors and main characters.
An example of what I’m saying consists of the so-called “morning expectations:” have you ever realized that in the morning, as soon as we wake up, we formulate some mental films or thoughts on events we are going to face in the course of the day? And have you ever realized that these expectations become a reality? Clearly, I am not referring to intentional thoughts, but to those “little thoughts” of fear and doubt surfacing without our consent. If, for instance, as soon as we wake up we think about a colleague of ours criticizing us or with whom we are going to argue, punctually, this self-fulfilling prophecy will come true.
