Switch Color State

by Mohammed Al-Hedi Al-Mtiri and Haroon Mohammed Al-Bloushi

Nature is colorful, and every color has special tastes, smells, and sounds. Moving between those colors changes our emotions, and our emotions change our physiology. Our physiology changes our thoughts, and vice versa. Because every person has a special map of the world, in this respect, they have a special "color map" of the world also.

When an event happens to us, we run our perceptions of that event through internal processing. We create our own map of the world. And this map has special colors. So when we change these colors, our map of the world changes also.

As a Color Therapist I would like to give an introduction to this kind of therapy.

The effects of color on our moods, health, and way of thinking have been studied by scientists for years. Your preference for one color over another may be related to the way that color makes you feel. As an NLP Practitioner, I can use this to change my client’s mental, emotional, and physiological state.

Colors are visible light energy of certain wavelengths. Photoreceptors in the retina, called cones, translate this energy into colors. The retina contains three kinds of cones: one for blue, one for green, and one for red. (I will use only these three colors now as an example. But I can use the other colors also because we perceive other colors by combining these colors.)

When the energy of color enters our bodies, it stimulates the pituitary and pineal glands. This in turn afects the production of certain hormones, which in turn affect a variety of physiological processes. This explains why color has been found to have such a direct influence on our thoughts, moods, and behavior -- an influence that many experts believe is distinctly separate from psychological and cultural factors. Color seems to have an effect even on blind people, who are thought to sense color as a result of energy vibrations created wihtin the body.

In 1942, the Russian scientists demonstrated that red light stimulates the sympathetic nervous system, while white and blue light stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system. Other experiments revealed that certain colors stimulate hormone production, while other colors inhibit it.

Specific colors can also have an effect on specific diseases. Symptoms of acute eruptive diseases, such as smallpox and measles, were relieved when patients were put in a room with red windows. Melancholiacs also recovered after a few hours in such rooms. Pain and depression were found to respond well to therapy using flashing bright lights and colored lights. These treatments have been shown to alter neurochemical production in the brain and this may account for their positive effects. Scientists now believe the brain has specific responses to diferent frequencies of flashing light and the different frequencies of various colors. They point out sleep problems can often be cured in one day by this method. Mood alteration takes a little longer -- about one to two weeks of treatments.

Photostimulation with flashing opaque wihte or violet lights was found to induce relaxation, reductin stress and chronic pain. Use of photostimulation, or brain wave synchronization, to assist relaxation and the induction of hypnosis had bene around since 1948. It has been used with the EEG (electroencephalogram) as an adjunct to the diagnosis of epilepsy.

Light is often described as the medicine of the future. It is an important therapeutic medium that profoundly affects our life.

I chose the Red, Green and Blue colors because those three make up all colors. And this is the introduction to them:

Red

Red is associated with the base chakra in the sacral region. It promotes vitality, strength, sexuality, willpower, and alertness. Red is used to counteract anemia, lack of energy, impotence, and low blood pressure. Its complement is turquoise.

Green

Green is the color of the heart chakra. Green is the color of nature. Green is the most predominant color on the planet. It balances our energies, and it can be used to increase our sensitivity and compassion. It represents purity and harmony. It has a calming effect, especially in inflamed conditions of the body. It is soothing to the nervous system. It is a great healer. It builds muscles, bones, and other tissue cells. Its complement is magenta.

Blue

Blue is associated with the throat chakra, which deals with willpower and communication. Blue is a calming color, good for curing insomnia. It can be used for throat problems, asthma, stress, and migraine, and it is good for improving verbal skills. Its complement is orange.

How I can use this new technique:

Using the provided graphic, the client is represented in their current state in the yellow circle.

There are four circles: the client in their current state, one red, one blue, one green.

I anchor, visually, audibly, or kinaesthetically, with the client’s representational system the colors one by one, red, green, and blue.

Finally, I move with my client to the new color that their current state is associated with.
