The Special Place and Special Friend By Paul Dorsett A strategy for self confidence A strategy for self confidence. 1. Identify the persons time line. 2. Identify an experience where you have felt confident, and control of a situation. For me this might include speaking in public, delivering training etc. 3. Identify sub modalities of experience. For me these would include feeling of calmness, the colour sky blue, feelings of warmth. 4. Anchor by touch. 5. Identify an experience where you did not feel confident and control of the situation. For me this included learning Aikido, where I did not feel comfortable with the break falls, and some of the body movements. 6. Identify sub modalities of experience, colours would be dull black and white, coldness, feelings of not being in control. 7. Anchor by touch. 8. Select a special place that you have visited that you have always felt highly motivated and energised and at peace at. For me it is a local forest area, which I have visited since a child. 9. Identify sub modalities of why you like the place. For me it is the peace, solitude, the greenness (possibly growth?) of the area . 10. Anchor by touch. 11. Think of a task or goal that you have to do which you are not feeling confident about. 12. Identify and anchor by touch. 13. Take a deep breath, close your eyes and breathe naturally. 14. Now visualise yourself in the special place. See the sights hear the sounds and the feelings that makes you feel good. (Trigger them by touch). Feel them absorb into you being and the sub modalities of lack of confidence disappear. 15. Now in your special place look into the distance you see a figure. You can’t quite see who they are, but you feel drawn to them and start to walk towards them, at the same time absorbing the sights sounds and feelings of your special place. 16. The closer you get to them the more you experience the sub modalities you associate with confidence emanating from them, in my case it would be the colour blue (perhaps a blue aura), warmth, calmness etc. 17. Finally you reach them and you see that it is in fact you. But it is you exhibiting all the submodalities of confidence. 18. Listen as the confident you tells you: ‘I will always be with you in the past, present and future, when we link and work together we know no aim is too high, or no goal insurmountable, come step into me as we look to meet future goals.’ 19. Step into yourself feel the sub modalities of confidence in you look to the future with these feelings of confidence within you. (For myself I would look to the right (my future) and visualise a blue sky, which I would associate with confidence), knowing that the integration of you (anchor using original anchor in step 4) and your confident self can achieve any goal you want to. 20. Person opens eyes. Test to see if self-confidence anchor attached.
