Safe Place By Amy Barlow 1. Have the person see a ‘safe place’ in their mind in which they feel safe and secure. Have them experience this place using VAKOG (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, Olfactory Gustatory). 2. Have the person recall the past negative event in their mind – associating VAKOG with the event. Tell them they can enter their ‘safe place’ at any time they choose. 3. Take them through the VAKOG they have associated to their past traumatic event only this time:
Auditory – have them hear any sounds or words begin to become distorted and distant Kinesthetic – have them ‘turn down’ their feelings using the dial technique. Olfactory – have them imagine a pure white light neutralizing any smells or odors Gustatory – have them imagine pure spring water washing over and cleansing any tastes associated to the event. 4.Anchor each of the diminished submodalities and teach them how to fire the anchor themselves.
