Box Technique

By Steve G. Jones

The box technique is a storage system to use when negative feelings, thoughts, or behaviors get in the way of

accomplishing goals. First, the person will identify the common negative situations they are experiencing in their

life and have designated boxes for these situations. For example, a person may organize their boxes under

three types: thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. When they realize they are experiencing one of these things,

they visualize themselves opening the box and putting the negative thought/feeling/behavior in the box.

They can then go to their positive boxes and pull out a positive thought/feeling/behavior to replace the negative

one. This technique will allow them to have more control over negative

experiences and in return create more positive ones.
