A Forgiving Goodbye Technique

By Dr. Russell K. Elleven

  1. Disassociation ... See yourself remembering a time that someone, caused you pain.
  2. How do you feet, see, smell, taste, and hear that pain?
  3. Break the anchor.
  4. Now see yourself remembering a time that you felt relief from pain.
  5. How do you feel, see, smell, taste, and hear that relief.
  6. Now think about a real place. Maybe you see this actual place each day on your drive home or each week on a specific day. Place your feeling of relief in that special place.
  7. Break the anchor.
  8. Now see that person who caused you pain. See yourself putting that person in your special and actual place.
  9. See yourself waving goodbye to the hurt and pain that was caused by that person.
  10. Do this as often as necessary.
  11. Obviously you will find that, each time you pass this actual place, your need to wave will lessen.
  12. There will come a time when you no longer have to wave.
