Sports & Performance Case Study: Hockey

By Jaime Meloche

The Problem: Agression from the opposing team that causes a loss of focus on the game.

1. Gathered information and learned that his ultimate goal is the NHL. He wants to have unwavering focus not only for his own self confidence but for his teammates as well. Determined fast time & slow time, the colours associated with each and all of the submodalities. Did Zone exercise and anchored “fast-time” with the “okay” symbol. Spoke about his favorite hockey player, “Sergei Berezin” and the qualities that he admires most.

2. Determined beliefs – his undeniable truth and a truth about himself. Recorded where these visions were held in his minds-eye and that both were in colour.

3. Conducted a highly effective Dave Elman Induction with slight personal modification.

4. Did Sermon Script.

5. At close of Sermon Script, I revisited “Fast Time” and had Jaime lock in all feelings & images with the “okay” symbol.

6. Visual Squash. Used anchors for both parts and then blended the two.

7. Did Sermon Script at end of the Visual Squash exercise.

8. New Behavior Generator. Used Jaime’s words of admiration for Sergei Berezin to illicit all positive feelings and imagery. Again, anchored with the "okay” sign.

9. Repeated the Sermon Script.

10. Swish.

11. Did Sermon Script again.

12. Had Jaime bring up picture of the truth about himself and incorporate the facts that he is a level-headed, focused and calm hockey player and further suggested that within the next several hours this truth will permanently settle in the place where he holds his undeniable truths.

13. Did Caterpillar Metaphor. Jaime smiled several times during the story.

14. Brought Jaime out of trance and discussed. He has a game in 2 days and is looking forward to the experience. Arrangements made to meet post-game in order to discuss the game and Jaime’s game mindset.
