Sports & Performance Case Study: Dancer

By Sanna Carapellotti, M.S., CCHT

Nicole, age 18, sought assistance for memorizing choreography. She had lots of anxiety about performance and criticism. She was highly motivated to seek change.

First we did several rounds of EFT to clear away the anxiety. It was decreased down to zero. She went to class the next day and experienced no anxiety, yet had difficulty focusing on the task at hand.

On her next visit, I did the "new behavior generator" using associative and dissociative techniques. She imaged in her mind the teachers words, watched the "best" girls perform the combinations while projecting herself onto the screen performing into the girls (intro to delman,, she pulled down a screen.) and then she associated into the energy of the "best" performers, and then sent her self across the floor (kinesthetic action technique) immediately before she was set to move and danced the combinations more solidly. I taught her how to do mental rehearsals using all her senses.... and although she did well she was still ambivalent about her capabilities, even though she is considered a high level dancer... so we did the visual squash technique which worked really well.

I suggested a 10 day mental cleanse during which time she spent time daily in a "spot" in her home, or outdoors that gave her the space and opportunity to nourish her desires with positives, strong images, and outcomes.

I also spent time reshaping her internal images of herself as a dancer. She was rather bent over and expressionless. Last I heard from her, she was dancing more consistently, and more
aware of when she needed to refocus herself and dance with clear intention.

If you need more detail, I certainly can provide that for you.
